Life & career transition coaching

Something has to change, but which is the best next move?

Most people who are unhappy with their situation already have ideas about what their transition could look like: a different job, a move, a new direction in life. The underlying question, however, is whether these ideas fit what you value and lead to the life you actually want, or whether something else is the better next step. That's what I'm here for. To find this out together.

About

Rachel Baker
I don't think transitions are a good time to guess. And don't just do what you should be doing or what you were taught is the right move. Transitions are full of possibility. They let you reorient in the direction that fits you.

I bring analysis to the stories you have, and honesty - I am not a cheerleader.

I help people navigate the transitions that reshape a life: changing careers, changing countries, or figuring out what to do with the next part of your life.

I am formally trained in understanding complex subjects, evaluating options, and developing solutions: a PhD in engineering, a master's in evaluation, and a bachelor's in environmental science.

Transitions are not just what I coach, I love them and live by them. As the spouse of a diplomat, I have lived all over the world and worked in a variety of fields including engineering, government, nonprofits, and IT consulting.

I'm obsessed with complexity. I love finding the reasons, the patterns, and the solutions.

The approach

Why this feels different from other coaching

What you're feeling

You're deeply unhappy with life or work, you want something to change, and you aren't exactly sure what to do about it.

What's really going on

Usually you're not short on ideas. But you might have never looked at the pattern underneath: why do you like these things? Also: do these ideas fit your life, or would something else fit better?

How we find out

An in-depth conversation surfaces the pattern underneath: your values and what's really driving the dissatisfaction. From there, you get honest feedback and a concrete plan, plus a built-in check-in to see if it's actually working.

01

Diagnostic session

90 minutes. I ask you all the questions.

02

Review session

A week later: 30 minutes to walk through what surfaced and a proposed plan.

03

Check-in

At a later point: 15 minutes to see how it's going, and adjust if needed.

For most of my clients, the insight gained is the most useful part, so there's no formal ongoing program you have to take part in. This is the discovery: you implement it in your own life.
